Shane Miller, DVM, DIPL. ACVS
Dr. Shane Miller is a native of Minden, NV. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he received his undergraduate degree. Dr. Miller received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1992. Following an internship at Littleton Large Animal Hospital Equine Clinic, Dr. Miller completed his equine surgery residency at University of California-Davis in 1996. He subsequently returned to Littleton Large Animal Clinic Equine Hospital in 1997. Dr. Miller became board certified in equine surgery from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1998.
While at Littleton Equine Medical Center, Dr. Miller served as CEO and Chief of Surgery. Since moving back to Nevada in 2009, Dr. Miller is the surgeon and shareholder of Comstock Equine Hospital and now Great Basin Equine Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Miller's professional interests lie in orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries with an emphasis in arthroscopy, laparoscopy and regenerative medicine. He also has a large clinical interest in lameness and performance horse medicine. Dr. Miller travels internationally performing surgeries and pre-purchase exams. He has written articles in Veterinary Surgery Journal, Equine Veterinary Journal, Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association and many lay journals. Dr. Miller has also presented numerous surgical and lameness topics both nationally and internationally. Dr. Miller lives in Gardnerville with his wife Kristin and their three children Peyton, Camden, and Landin. When he is not practicing, Dr. Miller spends time with his family. His hobbies include anything with his kids, triathlons, cycling, and golfing.
Kelsey Tanner, DVM
Dr. Kelsey Tanner is a native of Murphys, California and she obtained her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of California at Davis in 2016. After graduation she completed a year long surgery and medicine internship in Reno. She joined us as an associate veterinarian at Great Basin Equine Hospital in May of 2017.
Dr. Tanner’s professional interests include emergency medicine and surgery, lameness, ophthalmology, and reproduction. When she isn’t working, you can find her exploring Nevada’s beautiful outdoors while hiking and camping with her husband, Nick, and dog, Sam, or snuggling her cat, Trout. She also enjoys drinking wine in her parents’ tasting room at Tanner Vineyards in Murphys, California.
Meredith Frey, DVM
Dr. Meredith Frey grew up in both New Jersey and California, but has always considered 'out West' her home. She graduated from Colorado State University and completed a year-long medicine and surgery internship at Piedmont Equine Practice in The Plains, Virginia. Dr. Frey enjoys all facets of equine veterinary medicine and is looking forward to being an active member of the Carson Valley community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Andrew, and their dog, Barley.
Molly Lesser, DVM
Dr. Molly Lesser joins us from our sister practice, Comstock Equine Hospital. She is a native of Half Moon Bay, California, and grew up as a rodeo kid competing in roping through college. She is a graduate of Colorado State University and completed a year-long medicine and surgery internship at McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital in Newman Lake, Washington. Dr. Lesser enjoys lameness, sports medicine, and internal medicine. In her free time, Dr. Lesser runs ultras, competes in triathlons, and hikes with her Sheltie, Roxy.
